Key Focus Areas:
• Assist with onboarding and training of new team members
• Provide guidance to operational teams on complex customs procedures and requirements
• Support the development and maintenance of departmental work instructions and process documentation
• Conduct monthly due diligence and declaration reviews on assigned accounts
• Act as a subject matter expert on specialised customs processes, providing support and maintaining FAQ resources
• Prepare and submit customs applications for declaration amendments, duty adjustments, and refund claims
• Liaise with customs authorities regarding refunds and related queries
• Ensure customs declarations are accurate, compliant, and supported by sufficient documentation
• Review commercial invoices and shipping documentation for completeness and accuracy
• Maintain compliance with company procedures, customer requirements, and customs regulations
• Ensure adherence to non-customs regulatory requirements, including licensing, SPS controls, and restricted goods regulations
• Identify and implement process improvements through customs systems and operational tools
• Serve as a super user of customs brokerage systems and software applications
• Support tariff classification, customs valuation, origin determination, and preferential duty assessments in line with customer SOPs
• Work closely with management to ensure customs brokerage activities remain compliant with all regulatory and company standards
• Contribute customs duty and VAT information for customer reviews and reporting
• Support the implementation of new systems, process enhancements, and departmental initiatives
Minimum Requirements:
• Matric / Senior Certificate equivalent
• Minimum 8 years experience in a Clearing & Forwarding agency environment
• Specialist and updated knowledge of Customs legislation, tariff classifications, Incoterms 2020
• Knowledge of export/Import documentation & procedures
• Working knowledge of third-party quality control authorities’ procedures – ITAC, State VET, Plant Inspector etc.
